One of the problems in many families is that there are too many kids are born to single mothers. There is no argument that the best environment for a child is one where there is a loving mother and father to take care of him/her. The overwhelming percentage of children who live in poverty are in single parent households and poverty is a cause of stress.

Abuse of family members, adults and children, is also more prevalent in single parent households. Abuse is a cause of stress. Bullying, peer pressure, bereavement and academic demands have always existed and are recognized and handled better now than in the past.
