Unfortunately the world in its present form belongs to Satan and is his. This is why Satan offered the world to Christ in the desert during his recorded temptation after his baptism in the Bible (Satan wasn't lying for once!) However, the Bible also states that the government and all authority (military, police, etc.) is appointed by him. God is in control despite this current world belonging to evil.
So our personal role as Christians are to be the "salt of the earth". We are to respect our authority and submit to our authority. But we are also to submit to our God's authority before we submit to any earthly authority.
So yes - please write to all companies and governments. Let God's voice be heard because God speaks to people by using his people. Avoid being ridiculous in your letters, but be firm and concretely stand in the authority of the scripture.
For example, in the current situation with gay marriage, don't go around yelling hate crimes and striking people down. Homosexuality is a sin just as lying, stealing, and murder are sins. We should cast our vote to the governing official who does not advocate gay marriage.
We could also write to our government to explain why marriage is a covenant between a man and woman. In summary, speaking out is a great way to let the Christian perspective be heard. But don't be a crazy person - use tact and etiquette.
Be respectful. Win people to Christ.
I think Christians should be the most informed on current events and issues, especially if they are to be effective in being salt and light in this ever-growing bland and dark world we live in. Yes, they should be involved and vocal. How can they preach the gospel without words?
Not very effectively. However, I also think that it's most important to not forget that the Kingdom of God PRIMARILY comes through the church, and Her activities, NOT through politics or governments or political causes. We, in the West, live in a culture that is so obsessed with politics that we: -Begin talk of who will be the next President, the day after one is elected or re-elected.
-We treat our political leaders and Presidents like kings and celebrities while we often look down on pastors and evangelists. -Every newscast will have something political in it. -Every problem in our world, is first looked at through the lens of what the government can or should do about it.
-We have more reverence for our political leaders than our pastors. Many American Christians dare not miss paying their taxes but then yawn or protest if a church/pastor in need does a fundraiser or asks them to consider giving more money to a legitimate need. -Many consider themselves American first, Christian second or third.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
