Only when they come up with something unintentionally funny, and then not really at them as with them (I like to explain the reason it is funny so they learn). I speak another language on a regular basis so I empathize rather than criticize. And I do come up with some really funny ones by accident myself, too.
At one time I was an ESL teacher and I understand that people learn another language but don't understand the customs the words go with. So although they may speak English they have a different understanding of things, and because of that they don't understand structure, find it difficult that words sound the same but are spelled differently, that a word might have many definitions, and in their language probably they place the verb at the end of the sentence when writing, or even their language is all about pictures or thoughts rather than words. So while I try to forgive them for messing up I do try to figure out what they're asking so they can get the information they need.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
