Isn't it kind of arbitrary that in the US you:Drive a 2 ton truck at 16. Drink a legal beer at 21. Vote for change at 18.
Use tobacco at 18/21. Serve in the military at 18. Would it be better to set an age limit where you change from a juvenile to an adult?
Or maybe stagger it all by one year? Obviously drive at 16 = work at 16. Asked by ibstubro 20 months ago Similar questions: age limits driving drinking voting smoking serving military set Politics & Law > Politics.

Don't forget - DIE for your country at age 18. I don't know that it's arbitrary - at one point there was a rationale for each of them, but the ages haven't changed to keep up with the times. The problem that I see - what is the 'right' age?
Some people would say it ought to be 25 or 30. That will never happen. Others say that it should be 16 or 18.
I have a hard time accepting that a person can shoot a machine gun in the army at age 18 but he can't sip a beer until he 21. So what's the right age? > .
3 driving is a state by state issue - that one will not standardize mostly because of farm states I have a friend , she is 82 , her dad had her driving a FARM tractor at the age of 7 in IOWA , smoking - not for minors , but that is 18 everywhere. Drinking , again by the state , military and voting universal 18 -This is life where local governments decide local issues , it is not a bad thing , this is power to decide things from the bottom up and not from the top down, that is what the founders wanted , it is a way to protect freedom , and brother it needs all the protection it can get, always and forever.
