Could you please tell me what caused the bad smell (like bad breath) from the heating system?

Could you please tell me what caused the bad smell (like bad breath) from the heating system I have a 4 year old furnace heating system. One month ago, we began smelling a bad odor after each hot air browing stop. The smell is especially stronger during the evening from the heating vents nearest to the burner.

We called the company who installed the furnace, and they sent a technician to check it. We paid $147 for the checking. The techenicain said the unit is working fine, you need duct cleaning and should install a UV light that would cost about $700.

When I asked him if he was sure the smell would go away after c I am not sure, we need to try one by one. He could not find the source of the smell. My duct system was cleaned two years ago.

I do not believe the smell is caused by dust, because the dust would be burned out after several days when the furnace turned on. I would appreciate it if any one could give me a hint as to what to do. Asked by newuser64576278 24 months ago Similar questions: caused smell breath heating system Home > Home Improvement.

Something... Most likely something got dropped into the ductwork thru a register. Do you have kids in the house? If it smells like wax or plastic, maybe a crayon or some cling-wrap.

I agree that duct-cleaning is not likely to help, especially if the smell is strongest near the furnace. Sometimes the only way to figure this out is to unscrew the furnace from the ductwork, pull it out, and use a flashlight to look into the ducts and the furnace heat exchanger and see what's in there.

I always kinda liked that smell because it reminded me of childhood. But it's burning dust. There might or might not be dust in the ducts, but there could be dust in the heater, which would burn when the thing lights up.

Coworkers of some decades ago called it "burnt socks. " .

My daughter told me her son (my grandson) who is 13-years-old has had a sort of "fruity" smell to his breath lately...

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
