Curiosity Question: Who IS the MOST overrated "DEATH" Metal band?

Yeesh, I always intend to pick up one of Bolt Thrower's albums when I have the money but get side tracked every time, usually by some super 'kvlt' black metal CD/cassette limited to 666 copies or something. I'm like 'Bolt Thrower can wait, but this band from a country I've never even heard of can't! Must.buy.

Extremely rare. Album!' Must disagree with The Beatles comparison for a few reasons. A- They're not that popular, not even in death metal circles.

B- They haven't been the cause of any controversies. C- They won't even rank in the top 10 commercially successful death metal bands while The Beatles are probably the most commercially successful group up to date. D- There's no such thing as 'Boltmania' That said, Bolt Thrower is really good band of course.

I think they were the first death metal to have an emphasis on melody. However, I think quite a few Swedeath (NOT melodeath, mind you) bands did what Bolt Thrower did before them, essentially better, at least in their peak years. I'm talking about bands like Dismember, Desultory, Entombed etc. But then again, if you want to listen to mid paced sludgy death metal with hints of melody, it doesn't get much better than Bolt Thrower and the band's consistency and the 'not whoring out their female member' is pretty admirable as well.

MA2: There are many bands I like that would fit that criteria, including many black, death and doom bands. But one band that always surprises me as to how good a bad musician can sound is (old school) Burzum. If you dissect the Count's music, you will realize how utterly talentless he is at just about everything.

The drums, the guitars and even the vocals. There are many many BM bands that did these elements much better. However, when the music all comes together, it's hard not to cave in to atmosphere.

Of course, that's just me. Many people, even metalheads, perceive the brilliantly composed music as 'noise'. MA3: World Eater Spearhead Armageddon Bound MA4: Suffocation Dismember Vomitory MA5: I would say the old school style is probably my favourite.

Though I do listen to all styles at least occasionally. But dude... Cannibal Corpse was old school to the bone before Butchered At Birth. And their stuff hasn't been all that over the top since Gallery Of Suicide.

200% agree that you should do a blog thingy, killer peaches For sure! BT is up there with Death on my list of the epicness oldies. They're just... good.

Trve. (lulz, jk...sorta). I like your point that they don't need shock to get attention.

They're plain brutality without embellishment. It's like, I dunno, a machine gun. But slower, like time has slowed down as the bullets speed towards your chest...it's raw.

Fear. Epicness. Battle.

Terrors and tragedy of war. Speaking of which, BT's music vids are also plain awesome. And they've been so consistent over the years (not that I really care, lulz, since I'm a youngster, but it's nice when going back over their stuff).

And I like how hazy the production is. It just fits. On a similar note, Hail of Bullets is also good.

Martin van Drunen is in it. MQ2- I won't say Venom, hehe. I like a lot of unsigned/obscure/newish bands, like Radagost and Wolfhorde, that are just awesome IMO without particularly being amazingly talented.

It's just the attitude I guess. MQ3- War, ...For Victory, Those Once Loyal MQ4- I'll go with yours xD or also... Obscura, Decapitated, Morbid Angel, Crystalic, HOB... MQ5- I like 'em all. Haha, lest we forget, I see what you did there.

BQ- approx. 27 BQ2- Eh, too lazy...nah ok, nothing better to do xD ...For Victory The IVth Crusade Warmaster Those Once Loyal Honor Valour Pride Realm of Chaos In Battle There Is No Law Mercenary BQ3- Of course not. A desperate small-gene-pool people like that?

EDIT: Lol, it sounds so stoned.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
