No, honestly, I don't. They are a GREAT band, but, Death Metal has to have fast tempo, heavy and tremolo-picked riffs and really fast double-bass drumming. Opeth doesn't have any of those elements.
The only noticeable Death Metal element is Mikael Akefeldt's growls. They are rather "Progressive Metal with Death Metal elements". That's my opinion.
BA: It is good. But, due to Opeth's experimental nature, it didn't come out as their best stuff, imo.
Yes... Opeth's earlier albums were definitely Melodic Death Metal with clean vocals which the band Scar Symmetry does all the time (e.g. My Arms Your Hearse, Still Life, Blackwater Park, Deliverance, and Ghost Reveries). But to label Opeth as non-Death Metal because of their more recent music is absurd. Not all Death Metal has "fast tempo, tremolo, and fast double-bass drumming."
That sounds more like Grindcore based on what the "best answer" describes... The band Crematory is a perfect example of a Death Metal band without tremolo and Insomnium/Scar Symmetry/Barren Earth with slower tempos and clean vocals included...
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
