Difference between absolute and constituitional monarchy?

Absolute monarchy has the right an power to rule on its own without checks or limits. Effectively it is a dictatorship. However in reality these monarchs do have limits, such as the need to retain support from the aristocracy and population in order to safeguard its position a limited monarchy is one which is under constitutional constraints.

For example in the UK the queen is a heavily limited monarch, almost to the point where she is ceremonial, the magna carta under king john put limits on the english monarchy and its limits have grown over time for example the prominence of Parliament and the transferral of prerogative powers to the Prime Minister.
