You can be intelligent and believe in a god. I've never said you can't.
If they didn't believe in God they would have been executed by the loving and compassionate church.
I believe that they were very intelligent. That doesn't make all their ideas correct.
What a ridiculous statement to make. I don't think all religious people are stupid, many of them aren't. Just as some atheists are unintelligent, while many aren't.
They were all very intelligent, religion had no bearing on their work.
I think you take this site way too seriously if you legitimately think all atheists think theyre dumb.
No, but other Christians believed that at the time.
Im an atheist and I don't find christians to be unitelligent, I don't find muslims to be unintelligent, I don't find jews to be unintelligent, some atheist do believe this but not all Just like not all Christians go bashing others like atheist, gays, and other religions and tell them their going to hell. Stop clumping all of us together as one stereotype unless you want atheist to sum up all christians as one stereotype.
Lets see belief in god equals that ya um I think um ya know um im undecided.
Not at all. However, if Newton, Shakespeare and Mozart were alive today, they would surely be atheists. Why?
Because they are intelligent.
I don't believe they were unintelligent. I just believe they were wrong on that particular topic. "There is no evidence to prove the Big Bang theory or prove we evolved from some other species."
Wrong. Linked below are the evidence showing the Big bang did occur and the timeline of human evolution. You fail.
Jus because they believed in god dosen't mean we don't believe in those people, because they actually existed unlike god Mr Atheist.
No not at all, However they ALL lived before Darwin discovered that the Bible is unquestionably inaccurate. Why else would so many great minds today NOT believe in God?
No, i'm an atheist and I know those people were intelligent and creative. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion about gods and such, I feel the same way about other atheists, such as Charles Darwin, and people like newton because they were intelligent. In my eyes believing in something like God does not make you stupid, and the same goes for not believing in God either.
I still find Shakespeare a bit overrated. Now I have a question for you :D. If those people lived in our current times, with the current information that we've discovered, are you sure they would still believe in God?
Define "believe in God", that doesn't necessarily mean "Christian". They certainly weren't fundamentalist. Newton was more of a freethinker; Shakespeare more than likely was Anglican; and Mozart was Catholic.
I used to be an atheist, I did not think that believing in God had anything to do with the lack of intellect. I did notice that people trying to push their theological views like salesman had something missing in their tool box.
No, they just had beliefs they never questioned, and their beliefs about gods or god was wrong because it was not based on any evidence. It does not make them unintelligent just wrong about one idea. Unless you are willing to critically examine your beliefs, and find the evidence then you are believing in something for bad reasons.
People can compartmentalise their beliefs, it does not make them stupid, but they are still wrong.
I never said people who believed in god(s) were unintelligent. No one religion or ethnicity has the corner on being smart.
No, if they say smart people can't believe in God, they're just being jerks. Not serious. Just because I'm intelligent and I believe doesn't mean I'm right.
It's a bit like accusing someone from the 1950's of being a luddite for not knowing how to SMS. It is unintelligent to STILL believe in god these days, but back then fairies were all the rage.
Mozart: He was raised a catholic, but he later dismissed Christianity and joined a masonic order, and most likely an atheist one. Shakespeare: There is no direct evidence of William Shakespeare's religious affiliation. Newton: Although born into an Anglican family, by his thirties Newton held a Christian faith that, had it been made public, would not have been considered orthodox by mainstream Christianity; in recent times he has been described as heretical to orthodoxy.
All of the people that you mentioned, lived in societies where atheism was virtually non-existent. They were christians because they were indoctrinated by their parents, church, society, etc. And never heard other ideas and opinions. Of course, that doesn't make them unintelligent, that just makes them uninformed.
I'm not a christian nor an atheist, by the way.
No because they lived before people figured out there are other explanations for the universe and life besides god. I also do not think that those who believe in god are necessarily dumb it's just the belief in god is dumb. Also you should know that Newton believed in alchemy like most people of the day.Do you think that means that alchemy is right just because an intelligent person believed in alchemy?
I've used this argument before, expect a LOT of "red herring" references thrown around. I suggest wearing protection.
Jesus was a Troll: The Church's power wasn't as great as it was perceived in childish political legends of yore.
Atheist like serial killers who hate God over Martin Luther King and Gandhi who loved God.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
