I am no doctor, but I think that they work with the proper usage.
Yes, vitamins and minerals do work. Here are two simple proofs. If you are deficient in vitamin C you will suffer from scurry.
This is an ailment many early sea explorers experienced during their voyages across the ocean without citrus fruits for long periods aboard their ships. That ailment disappeared once they started including citrus in their provisions. The another obvious one is osteoporosis.
If you are deficient in the mineral calcium you will suffer from this ailments and children manifest it in their leg bones. Their leg bones are generally curved because their bones are soft due to low calcium levels in the body. There are too many proofs to list here that the intake of vitamins and mineral supplements do work.
The problem is that too many people take more than they need to and that create other problems in the body.
Yes they do! It is important to get as much as you can from foods but some you just cannot and I can really tell a difference when I go a few days forgetting my supplements! Big time.
I was about to ramble off an answer, but thought, 'what a great topic for a hub! ' So I wrote a hub about the question;mosladder.hubpages.com/hub/Do-Vitamin-an... for reading!
I think they do, I have seen it work. My ex ended up get a hip replacement at 28yrs old. In the mean time he was in a lot of pain.
He was popping ibuprofen like they were M&M's. Couldn't even walk through the mall. So my sister and I went to our local co-op and looked up hip pain and purchased Glucosamine.
Way before it was being advertised on television. In a month of taking it he had no pain. No more ibuprofen but he still needed the hip replacement, due to a childhood illness, however it worked.
Everyone has different body chemistry though, what works for one person might not work for another. Like a workout routine or a diet.
Yes, vitamin and mineral supplements actually work. I have seen good results.
Yes they work but only on a placebo level. There are two ways to view placebo, the negative view as in gimmick or the positive way as in the science behind the placebo effect. Everyone harps on the gimmick and NOT one research organization studies the science behind the placebo effect.
The science behind the placebo in regards to vitamin and mineral supplements is the science of the human immune system which cannot be patented or sold therefore is completely disregarded by the whole medical industry including the alternative medicine industry. When natural medicine works it is pure placebo which means it is the person's own immune system doing the work. However because there is no one trained in the art of placebo anymore alternative medicine as become as useless as western medicine when it comes to cures.
There was a time not so long ago when natural practitioners were capable of curing through the science of placebo but now they are all taught to rely on the products not the science. Granted the best practitioners had no idea their cures where part of the science of placebo which is why they have all become virtually ineffective offering only temporary relief at best. This is because all natural medicine has become product gadget oriented instead of passion oriented. At least with passion a person has a better chance of delivering a placebo effect, even one that cures.
I could make a hub about it and it would leave no room for dispute because I know the science behind the actual immune system but the hub would be a flop because no one wants to see immune science made available because it would destroy the complete medical industry with the exception of trauma. It would also cause a population explosion. Actual healing requires no technology or products.
The vitamins and minerals we need comes from our food and they are helpful but they do not cure or boost immunity without generating a placebo effect. A sugar pill with a great label will work equally well. Those blaming food for our weakened health do so at the destruction of the truth.
I will say this, the most harmful foods today are any foods containing carbs or sugars and that includes blueberries. Carbs and sugars feed fungus and fungus kills more people than any other pathogen and I am not speaking of candida, I'm speaking of all the fungus that each and everyone of you is saturated with.
Yes they definitely do work. You should still try to eat foods which contain vitamins and minerals, but used as a supplement, they will work. I have been taking vitamin and iron supplements for years now and they definitely do help.
Reading through the answers, just want to add that much has been learned and discovered since the '60s and doctors aren't usually knowledgable about nutrition or supplements. With so much info at our fingertips, researching our own bodies and diet is almost imperative with modern challenges depending on where we live and what we choose to eat. Beyond vitamin C for example, they've discovered a whey protein isolate that optimizes the immune system by raising glutathione levels - 'bout a million times more effective than Vit C; Glucosamine & Chondroitin with a Qusome delivery system more effective as a topical ointment without having to ingest meds...Most of us lack Omega, Flax and choose refined and cooked products that no longer have any minerals or vitamins in them.
Lettuce loses its vitamins within 20 minutes or so unless coated with olive oil or such, so every salad from a restaurant is lacking... Unless we eat at least 5 organic fruits and veggies daily, fish for the Omega etc. Its easier to stay optimally healthy with supplements. Its even possible these days to change even the hereditary diseases we're prone to. Research also shows how much the earth's magnetic system is diminishing but there are magnets we can wear to compensate - scalar energy pendants that protect us from the EMS emitted by cell phones and computers... All vitamins are not equal either.
Clearly, I could go on but have written many hubs on the subject :))).
Yes of-course! Its important to take food on daily basis which have different vitamins and minerals.
Yeah as for me they actually works. I believe they do as for my experience. I had once been taking this supplement called the transfer factor and it indeed boost up my immune system tremendously.
Thanks for it and all it's creators though just recently my uncle who has been supplying it in our place had cease supplying it.
Absolutely. These days, most of us don't have the time to eat 3 balanced meals every day. If your body does not get the proper nutrition if will not function to it's full capacity.
I belief so,I have been using supplements for years.
They work if your body needs it. That is , if you lack the necessary levels of vitamins and minerals in the body then supplementation will be beneficial. Common example is iron-deficiency anemia.
You lack iron from the diet, so iron supplementation will work for you. Now if you get enough of those in your diet, then supplementation would be a waste of money.
Yes, on some people but not on everyone. I suggest that people ask the doctor if they need them and what kind to recommend.
100% your health always depends on vitamin and mineral supplements.
No they don't, my uncle was a scientist at Lipton's in the late sixties. He experimented on thousands of chemicals in our foods and prescription medicines that can kill people. When he brought it to the attention of his higher ups they told to be quiet. My uncle is dead now but his papers are still with us, and I see everything he warned us about is true, just look at the cancer rates!
Just eat healthy foods with the REAL vitamins instead of the crap you may think is good for you.
Yes its work. Before take any vitamin or mineral supplements talk with Doctor. I think natural way is more effective.
Have vegetable and fruits better than vitamin and mineral supplements.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
