I was actually going to make a question about 2012 at some point and time, simply because I find the topic interesting. I'm going to start with why people think the Mayans knew something we didn't. In my opinion, people feels this way for a completely idiotic reason.
Mayans were amazing astronomers, they predicted all types of things. But what people seem to forget is, they were amazing in their time. They were unique in their time, but we are far more knowledgeable now, especially with all of our technology.
Now, I was completely obsessed with this 2012 stuff for a very long time, who wouldn't be? It's freaky! But when you think about it, and you get past all the doomsday sites that are making money off of your fear... You'll come to realize, that they didn't predict the end of the world at all."The World As We Know It" That could mean 100's of different things.
For example, tomorrow I could get an amazing job and move to a different state. My world as I know it has changed. In 2012, we could introduce flying cars, palin can get office, we can go to war, a jelly monster can pop out of the mountains... If any of these things occurred, small or not, Our world as we know it will change. I've also read many places, that to the Mayans this is like their new year.
I've also read they believe that when we're aligned with the milkyway during the winter solstice, they believe their ancestors will come to visit them basically. And then there's stuff about our DNA getting changed, all types of crazy things. You know what I think though?
I simply think it's their beliefs. But they never said, the world would end. Now getting into Nostradamus involvement in this whole thing.
This really upsets me for various reason, 1) being Nostradamus NEVER predicted the world would end in 2012.2) Nostradamus wrote passages(quatrain), that can be interrupted into anything. Infact, the "prediction" of 9/11 was fake. A student at Brock University in Canada, wrote an essay about Nostradamus illustrating how easily it is to twist and turn things basically.
He used certain things so it was deliberately vague(like all of Nostradamus Quatrains) and could fit 100's of cataclysmic events. Which is so true, all the things Nostradamus wrote, we can fit into anything. And we do it, why?
Because we always want to know the future, we want to believe someone knew it was happening. But you cannot predict the future. So, besides the point that Nostradamus passages could be turned into anything, if you read any of his work before this 2012 topic went into full force, you'd know that he didn't "predict" the end of the world for many many MANY years.
The said reality of this is, Someone got this topic going and years later they made a movie about it, and now there's people making Doomsday Website and quiting their job and stocking up on canned foods. There's absolutely no Scientific proof that backs up any of the "end of the world" theories. I find it extremely sad how many people are making money off of this.
With their books and "survival kits", it's crazy. It's just another scam. So yes, I think this is just a conspiracy. Although y2k in itself is not a good example, they didn't know what would happen because the calendars weren't set to go to 2000, really had nothing to do with the end of the world.
On the side note, there was people talking about massive earthquakes blah blah but that really wasn't apart of the actual problem with y2k. There's always going to be someone crying the end of the world, realistically we will never know. We just have to hope it won't happen anytime soon.
I do not believe that the Earth will come to an end in 2012. I believe that the Mayans' simply ran out of space or decided not to calculate past a certain multiple of years from when they calculated it.. If there were doors to the Mayan temples I might expect them to close around that time, but I do not think that they do.
Some hindus believe that in 2012 an Avatar (God in human form) with God-like powers who will herald a new age will appear. And that idea is reflected in many religions and games that have some connection to that religion. 2012... shall be the year of reckoning.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
