Do you ever feel like you don't even want to write a thought down, as if writing it makes it permanent somehow. I have this sense that being human with an ego identity is somewhat of trap, like it holds us to a form or concept of ourselves, I realize for many this feels secure, but I feel opposite. I feel tethered to an identity that is only representative of the past.
I don't know who or what I might be next, and I don't want sub-consciously to be held to some idea of myself. Writing feels that way, it places a form down, and idea we have of ourselves into words, that represent only a moments contents. How can we remain fluid in an ever changing environment if we are creating form that holds us in place, conceptually maybe, but I think it marginalizes the future moments potentially.
Perhaps this comes from the societal desire for things to be consistent, regular, predictable, dependable. It all seems so ridiculous in this place, where truly none of those qualities play out for very long, other than maybe with human beings. But then again aren't we sort of un-natural on this planet anywa Asked by Roadsidebetty 49 months ago Similar questions: feel write thought writing makes permanent Society > Philosophy.

Absolutely. Writing things down makes them material. No longer can you pass it off as the ghosts in your head- and you have to deal with the fact.
People often have trouble with saying that a loved one who has been killed or died is 'dead. ' Death notices are received on paper, things like that. The flappy little envelopes that you get when a college has refused your application?
That's an omen too. But it's still in your head. Humans associate things with things- sometimes that don't even make sense.
If you don't say it, maybe it won't come true. By having things become tangible- that weren't before- scares us. I'm no psychologist, but I notice things in people.
Because if you keep something in your head, confined, then it is only yours. But by writing something down, it let's the whole world know. Writing notes is a way of telling people what happened- or what didn't happen. It's almost the same way with speech- except with speech, it's not as finite.
If no one hears you, the words can just get carried away on a wisp of wind. However, you still know that you said it, you made it finite.Yeah. That's my take.
New age people say, what you write down you make happen. I think people need to be careful of what they... think and focus on .
We both step and do not step in the same rivers. We are and are not. " - Heraclitus c.500 B.C.Realistically, things can be predictable only in terms of probability, like the Kentucky Derby, and never truly reliable.
Since everything is in change, and, as far as we know, heading to oblivion ( see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_death_of_the_... ) you might as well change your identity as often as you like - Bob Dylan's made a career out of it, as illustrated in the new film "I'm not there" where he's played at different points in his life by six different actors. I write for myself. Writing that is therapeutic and not ego-driven. I’m in the midst of a crisis in which ’writing’(s) led me to end my marriage.
Married for 20 yrs. To a writer/lyricist, I discovered that the pen is indeed mightier than the sword as I ’conveniently' stumbled upon a truth I had no idea existed. He made the ’very egotistical’, and egregious error of ’recording’ a love affair, through notes, song lyrics, novellas and poetry. No stone left unturned, all was well-recorded for the whole world to view; as many will due to the publishing of much of it.
I felt a kindred spirit to Roberta Flack when she sang "Strumming my fate with his fingers, singing my life in his words "Killing me softly with his song", as not only were they ’advertising’ their love for one another, they were slamming me with lies and harsh criticism. Slander for all to see.It used to feel demoralizing. Now I see it as a desperate attempt to hold onto an ideology; one that began as a 'Shakesperean' love story........one now ready for the archives....under 'fiction'.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
