Older people tend to focus on the decade of their teen youth. For example, back in the 70s a lot of TV shows revolved around the 1950 like "Happy Days", "M.A.S.H.", and "Sha Na Na." These shows about the 50s were made by producers who were middle aged in the 1970s.
Moving forward, in the 80s many films came out about the 1960s. One of the big films of the 80s was "Platoon" made by a guy who was middle aged in 1985 but had been young in the 1960s as a real Vietnam Veteran. In the late 1980s the "Wonder Years" was very popular.
It was a series about middle school children in the 1960s. It was made by a middle-aged producer who had been young in the 60s. In the late 1990s to early 2000s one of the popular series was "That 70s Show" about the 70s.
Once again, the producers who made that were middle aged at that point in time (1999-2005) and were producing a series about the 1970s when they were young. So middle-aged producers tend to make films or TV series about the time they were young roughly 20 to 30 years earlier. About 20 to 30 years from now there will likely be middle-aged producers at that point in time who will make a film or TV series about the current time frame.
I strongly suspect that in the 2030s or 2040s some middle aged person at that future point will make a historical film about "American Idol" - perhaps a person who is young now and actually participated. Movies about 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015, etc. will be all the rage in 2030, 2035, 2040, etc.
I enjoy, but don't spend a lot of nostalgia time - - rarely actually. I kind of get the most satisfaction out of dwelling and appreciating the present moment. I could not even easily pin down a favorite decade.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
