This one, I'm not 100% sure on either way. On one side, because of Chile's economy and their preparedness, they've stated that they don't really need the help. On the other hand, Haiti, because of their poor economy and lack of preparation, does need the help.
Chile thinks they can handle this one on their own. Does that mean we shouldn't help? Well, I still think that any sort of effort should be focused on Haiti, since they are the ones that really do need the help.
They're in much worse shape. But helping Chile would be nice too. I just don't think we should forget about the state Haiti is in and focus on Chile, when Chile is the one that need help much more.
That being said, relief funds have already been started, much in the same manor as Haiti - with text donations, for example. I don't think anyone is ready to drop on Haiti and head to Chile just yet. Here is a list of ways you can help Chile (in sources).
If donation funds weren't already set up - would it be worth it to donate? Maybe not. They few hundred (at most) our community can donate isn't going to go far in Chile.
Not nearly as far as in Haiti, where a bigger fund can put the money to best use. It would be a good gesture, but maybe not the best use of the money, to help the most people. So I think yes, we should set up a fund.
But the focus should not be taken away from Haiti as they need much more help than Chile.
