Do you, your pet or anyone you know have anxiety over thunderstorms?

I live in a rural area in Kentucky. We have several thunderstorms. Honestly, they don't bother me at all.

The only time the weather gets to me is when there are several tornado warnings out. I know some people who hit their cellars the minute the weather man calls for a thunderstorm. I think it's kind of silly, but I don't go outside and face the storm either.

I used to have a German Shepherd that would get all tore up when it would thunder. He was the same way when he heard a gunshot. He would not hide or get nervous, he would chase it.To be honest, I felt as if anyone ever shot me, he would rip them a new one.

I guess I took a bit of comfort in that. I am sure that wouldn't do me much comfort after I was shot, but it still was. I've heard many people tell me stories of their dogs busting through screen doors and windows to get in from storms.

I feel bad for anyone or animal that is so terrified.

I live in Spain and the thunderstorms can be pretty spectacular here! We very often have no rain, just the light show and the sound effects. If it does rain as well, it is a deluge.

None of my animals, cats or dogs like these storms, they all rush indoors when it starts and hide in weird places. My Chihuahua has an igloo and he rushes into it like a greased weasel! The worst thing is that these thunderstorms can start so suddenly here, if I am unlucky enough to be out walking the dogs when one starts, I am usually dragged along with my feet barely touching the ground as they pull like crazy things on their leads!

By the time I get indoors, they are nervous wrecks and my arms would be better suited on a monkey, then I'm greeted by the howls of deranged cats because I wasn't there to comfort them! I can remember when I was a kid being scared by thunder and lightning, I'm not bothered now unless it's really close. I have some friends in a nearby town whose house was struck by lightning twice in the space of twenty minutes, luckily, they were unhurt, just very shaken, but the damage to the house was extensive.

I thought that couldn't happen.

I love it when it rains and love it better when my love ones are at home with me at the time. As a kid, I hated thunderstorms and used to grab at anyone that was closer to me for cover. But now that I am older, I appreciate it.My dogs love rain but hate the sound of thunder.

You need to see them when they hear the sound of the thunder. My husband said that it is like the sound gives them extra powers, because when the sound of the thunder shatters the still of the night or quietness of the day, the dogs begin to act up. The bigger one would run into my baby’s room and open up the wardrobe in search of a good place to hide.

The smaller one just keeps running from room to room until the storm stops.

I'm a lot better than I used to be - I used to panic. When I lived at home I always made sure I was in the room with someone else. When I lived with roommates, I usually did the same.

If I was home alone, I freaked out a bit. It stems from the fact that I really don't like the dark, and I was scared the power would go out. It also didn't help that my dad loved thunderstorms, so he would always make me sit outside on the (covered) deck to watch with him, or drive us to the beach to watch - and I was terrified and begged to go home.

Now that I live alone, they don't bug me so much - I think it helps that I'm in an apartment so I feel a little more secure, and the room doesn't shake with thunder. However, I do always light candles when it's dark juuuust in case the power goes out. Even when it's hot out.

Strangely enough, walking outside doesn't really scare me, unless the storm is RIGHT overhead. My ferret doesn't mind thunderstorms. She's pretty oblivious and usually doesn't even notice noises.

Typically she sleeps through them, though particularly loud thunder does wake her up and make her jump. Only once I saw her freak out enough to run and hide under a chair, and I think it was just because she was so startled. My dog at my parents used to shake, cry, and hide or follow people around.

However, now he's nearly 15 and he's deaf, they don't bother him, so it must have been the thunder that scared him. In fact, he usually goes outside on the deck and stands at end edge of the stairs (RIGHT on the edge so he doesn't get wet) and "inspects" the yard, Pretty funny actually.

I like thunderstorms and often sit out on the porch to watch them. I had a cat tht would come and hide behind me on the couch and just stick her head out when she calmed down. The other cats don't mind.

I am with you! I love rain and as long as my spouse is home, I love storms! Rain is beautiful, you can catch me dancing in the rain.

I have 4 English Bulldogs, and one of them actually has a problem with the storms. He hates lightening, thunder and fireworks. We bought 3 of our English Bulldogs as babies.

The one that is afraid of the thunder and loud noises we had bought when he was older. To this day is scared of any loud noises. We wonder about his past and if something may have happened at a baby.

He is afraid of tin foil. (Getting it out and ripping it off) as well as putting a new garbage bag in, strange. He is very skidish.

Right now I live in Los Angeles, and thunderstorms are few and far between. But I used to live in Denver, which has thunderstorms that can only be described as spectacular. I personally adore thunderstorms, and I wish there were more of them where I live now.

The dog that I had in Denver, however, absolutely hated them. She would hide under the bed for the entire storm, and nothing could coax her out from under there. In my experience, a lot of pets are the same way.

Thunderstorms can be very traumatic for them, and I have never met an animal who likes them.

If you have more than one dog, and you do not know which dog is being destructive, you need to play private investigator. Peeking through a window or setting up a camcorder or two will help you find out who the perpetrator(s) are. You may need a new attitude.

From now on you are not going back in the house when little Fifi cries.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
