Does a DISH (from Dish Network) go bad after a certain time? What about DVRs?

The DISH we have was left by the previous owners and we no longer get a signal from it. I was wondering if its possible that its just old and maybe we should have gotten a new one. Also, before the DISH stopped working, the free DVR we got does not record evenly.

Check your lline of sight You may have a object that getting in the way of your signal remember that it an old dish so wind and time may have move her out of sight of the sat it likely that you had a weak signal lock to start with. So a check up and setup is in order before you buy a new dish. Remember that tree grow too so check that out.

Everything wears out eventually... I have had 2 DirecTv dishes for about 10 years, the equipment works on the same principal. Quality might not be identical (I think DTV tends to be better) but they will develop the same problems. The dishes are the original and work fine but I have been through several receivers.

The dishes are subject to the elements so it depends on where you live, rain and wind can knock them out of whack so it may not be that it's not working, it may be that it is out of alignment. Did you try going through the set up again to make sure everything was right? Snow and freezing weather is supposed to be the hardest on them but I live in Arizona, I don't have that problem.

They also need a clear view of the south sky. The receivers have a hard drive in them and they will eventually go bad, I usually get about a year out of them now. The old units lasted much longer but did so much less, they probably weren't as complicated.

DTV receivers have a troubleshooting menu on them, do Dish receivers? I have had to defrag my hard drive before by going through the delete process on the troubleshooting menu, if you have one try it. If it is dead use the opportunity to look into Direct, the programming is more extensive and they seem to have less problems.It's fairly easy to find someone to give you a free 4 room set-up with a year's contract, not sure how many of those would be dvrs.

Have you called customer service? With DTV they will go through diagnosis with you and can even access the receiver through the phone line, I would imagine Dish has the same service. They have even helped me fix it when it was user error :) .

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
