Does a (not XM) radio with "antenna in the earphone cord," have anything special about its earphones, or can I use any?

From looking at a couple of sites, it LOOKS to me like they just use the earphones' common lead as the antenna, which strongly suggests (to me) that they'll work just fine with pretty much any "normal" earphones. Any earphones should work Although the wire, which acts as a simple quarter-wave monopole antenna should be a quarter wavelength long (the wavelength at about the center of the FM band, or the frequency range that you want to receive) for best performance.

Any earphone goes If ti was a special feature, it'd require another section on the plug. But if the radio comes with a standard 3-section plug then it will be compatible with any other set of earphones featuring the same diameter 3 section plug.

During a walk around both the house and the immediate neighborhood, I experienced only the mildest of dropouts, and only then for brief periods of time. I even tried using the Radio Remote with the Bose Triports plugged into the iPod directly, and nothing connected to the Remote. This should theoretically have resulted in nothing but static (no antenna attached), but it didn’t.

Instead, I found a usable signal on all my marked stations. Overall, I was quite impressed with the reception, though I live in an area with relatively strong FM signals. I wasn’t able to test the Radio Remote in an urban environment, which would subject it to more multipath interference.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
