Does anyone know how to make the crop tool in AI CS3 work to crop a section to save for the web?

The crop and the save to web are two different functions. In the workflow you are asking about, you should crop the image, then save to web. Save to web is just a simple way to reduce the color space and size of the image.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
