Does the idea of eternal torment in hellfire bother you? What does the Jewish community believe?

Actually the torment is not forever the fire, and the smoke there from is....as is the second death (ceasing to be) But God has no interest in seeing people being tormented for eternity if they don't want life with Him, then he will let them have death. AFTER an accounting called Judgment Day Hell is a place of waiting for judgment day, where one is tormented by the torment of their own foolishness.... that revelation 20 scripture says it all The Catholics thought up the seven levels of hell, and devils with pitchforks, and it was promulgated by works of fiction like Dante's Inferno and is sadly preached from pulpits today.

Sticking purely to the Bible, the idea of eternal torment after physical death came most clearly from Jesus Christ. He warned of this more than anybody else in the Bible. List of scriptures where Jesus warned of hell – Matthew 5:21-30; 10:26-28; 13:40-43; 18:7-9; 23:33; 25:41 Mark 9:43-48 Luke 12:4-6; 16:19-31 The one in Luke 16:19-31 is the most detailed and it agrees with the rabbinic schools of Shammai and Hillel on that matter.

Those beliefs were current in Judaism before, during and after Jesus' time on Earth. Please note, however, that many ideas of this torture are grossly inflated by Islamic Hadiths (traditions) which Catholic Dante took on board for his writing about 'Inferno'. Jesus did not lend credence to any of that.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
