I was always careful about privacy and the Facebook TOS, and I suppose I've never been that heavy a Facebook user anyway. My privacy settings were always pretty much at the maximum, so that only friends can see anything, and basically I only have people I know in real life as friends on Facebook, with only one or two exceptions for people I know very well but haven't met face-to-face for some reason. Even then I tend to operate on the principle that anything you post on Facebook may become public at some point, and I don't post things that could seriously compromise my privacy or security. As far as I can tell, YourOpenBook / FacebookSearch cannot find my status updates because of my privacy settings, so nothing has really changed for me.
Apart from privacy, I also don't like the aspect of the Facebook TOS which gives them a lot of ownership and control over things that you post there. I guess these things are a problem because people don't check TOS, go through the complicated privacy settings etc, and the defaults lean towards making things too public.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
