There have been many good stories written over the past 60 years But I am at a loss to recommend any specific ones because I have not bought any in a long time. I used to read them avidly 30-40 years ago, when the authors were actually people (men, mostly) who had fought in the war. Those were probably some of the best war stories written, by those who had actually experienced it.

I recommend scouting around used book stores -- many of those books only appeared in paperback, and you can pick them up very cheap. . Oh wait, some titles are coming back to me now... Alan Furst has written a number of novels of espionage in the '30's, in the run up to war, largely with an Eastern European cast of characters.

They are very well written. Douglas Reeman has written several novels about the Royal Navy in WW2 which I have enjoyed. Jack ggins is the author of The Eagle Has Landed, which was made into a movie.

Alastair Maclean wrote several WW2 novels such as The Guns of Navarone, Force 10 from Navarone and Where Eagles Dare. I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
