FISHING.." look here honey. It's that drunken hillbilly with another fishing question! Wonder what he's asking now."

Have you ever been "noodling" for catfish"? Where I grew up, they called it "graveling" and some other places call it "grabbling". Whatever your local name is, it means going underwater, finding a BIG ole catfish (usually a flathead)hiding in a hole, grab a'hold of him and drag him out!

Follow the link below to see some "good ole boys" catch a couple of pretty good sized flatheads. youtube.com/watch?v=LksuKTD8y0oHave you ever done this? Would you ever do this?

I've seen it done but I grew up catching mine the ol' fashioned way! :) Jimbo! I have watched lots of footage from time to time over the last few years on documentaries about catfish (I believe they called it 'grabbling' on the programs I was watching) and watched people in person try to teach me as I was growing up (my father always told me to pull up a chair and take a seat whenever someone wanted to tell you something new/different about fishing -- and yes, I think I was born with a fishing rod already in my hand...I have pictures of me before I could walk holding my Zebco rod and reel!) but I've never actually done it before.

Most had these really thick gloves to wear and the locals of the area (or the bayou in my case as we were in Louisiana at the time), and they just had a 6th sense or something like most fishermen (and women! ) have if they've grown up fishing and they'd quiety walk around an area and then suddenly they were under and grabbing and coming up with their hands down the throat of some MONSTER sized catfish! I have to say, it was quite fascinating and interesting to listen, watch and learn but we always used a trotline and "bloodbait" but we were always very picky about the exact place to set up the trotline.

On rare occacions, I have caught a few on a rod and reel but I grew up learning to put up the trotlines across channels for the most part. Jimbo, there you go again making me HUNGRY! How come I answer your questions just about suppertime?!

Here's to great fishing! You have yourself a great evening! Video .

It’s called graveling here too and although I have watched people do it I wouldn’t even think about it. First of all those catfish can fin you and beyond the fact that it hurts like crazy it can cause a nasty infection. I went with some guys who were going graveling once but I just watched because there was no way that I was going to stick my hand in an underwater hole that I couldn’t see into.

I would be terrified that I would grab a snake and it wouldn’t have to be a poisonous snake either because just as soon as I realized that I had a snake in my hand I would have a heart attack and die right then and there. To top it all off you almost always get bit by that ugly fish because to get hold of him you have to put your hand in his mouth.

Never been I am so fascinated with "noodling". I watched a series they had on one of the sports fishing channels and was absolutely amazed with what these folks do. They get in the water and find a dark bank and go hand first into the hole.

Put their fist in the flatheads mouth and come out with the fish attached to their arm! A little crazy but very admirable! Some of them were 60 pounds and more!

That is GOOOOODDDDD eatin’! They had a contest and they were showing all the injuries that some of the fishermen endure. Some minor, some really bad.

Those catfish got teeth! Lol I saw one guy that only had one arm going in the hole with his foot and bringing up a fish! AMAZING STUFF!

I don’t think I would do it but I sure would like to watch someone .

Wow... Amazing... I've seen it on TV. If you never heard of it before you would think somebody's pulling your leg. I remember seeing a guy reach under an overhanging bank and coming out with a snake.

That would do it for me. They have pulled out some monster catfish. What I really want to know is; The very first guy to do it, how did he come up with the idea?

Being from Michigan , the only noodling I done has been at the Olive Garden. Most ot the waters here are very cold and either fast moving, deep, or both. Our catfish are not as big on average as they are in southern waters.

Not many people from Michigan will eat catfish, they're kind of mushey and most consider them a rough or garbage fish. They can put up a great fight though. I don't want to offend anybody that does eat catfish, it's just that we have such a good panfish, walleye, trout and salmon fishery than catfish and bass are not usually eaten.

Quite a few practice catch and release. I've drifted away from the subject somewhat. Anyway, most of our waters are not conducive to noodling.

We have a high number of very large snaping turtles here and that alone would keep us from noodling or skinny dipping, ouch! In conclusion, I have to tip my hat to you sourthern boys. As Kipling said, "you're a better man than I am, Gunga Din"..

Now Way........No How That was a funny video and I would definitely call them guys "gen-u-wine" Rednecks. I’m glad to see them enjoying themselves so much but I think it’s down right disgusting. The way those guys have their arms through the mouth coming out of the gill is nasty.

You could pay me a sum of money and I’d try this, put that’s about the ONLY way I’d try it. I’ll leave all that fun, laughter and catfish to the Rednecks out there. I wonder what their wives think about them bringing those gigantic fish home and who gets to cook it?

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
