For foreign language films, would you prefer the option of dubbed translation instead of subtitles?

I live in The Netherlands, which is the neighboring country of Germany, so we can see German TV. I never do, simply because of the German dubbed movies. Do you have any idea how strange it is hearing Mel Gibson and Samuel Jackson having the same voice?

Once you're used to hear your favorite actors' voices, you never ever want to have to endure an entire movie dubbed. There are just a few voice actors, who bud all movies, and while I am sure they do a fine job, they are simply not the original actors, and those actors are being paid big bucks to act. Part of their act is putting in the exact right voice, with the right tremble or intonation. It's an intricate part of their performance.

Taking away their voice, destroys a lot of the joy of the movie. The same happens in Video Games. Check out this report on how germans destroy the video game experience.

I'll watch subtitles on anything! Only in the case of animation, though, will I consider watching a dub. For a foreign live action film, I want to watch the original actors, because a dubbed voice over people speaking in another language just doesn't work for me.

I know some people just disregard foreign film, but there are really great movies and shows out there which they might like, if only they'd get into reading subs.

I will definitely like to watch with subtitles. You can hear the original dialog made by real actors; you may even catch some words that you know in a different language. Also, it will help some people learn a different language.

Subtitles don't distract me at all. I like diversity rather than monotony of a single language.

Personally, I prefer dubbed translation to subtitles. I find it more comfortable to watch a movie with dubbing rather than having to read the subtitles to understand what is happening. I prefer to use subtitles when I'm watching movies in a language that I understand but not very well.

For eg, when I watch Indian movies, I prefer to watch it in ndi with English subtitles rather than to watch it dubbed in English.

I agree. Watching foreign language films and reading the subtitles is totally distracting to a point that you just read the lines instead of watching the actors and actresses do their work. A number of foreign films have recently been dubbed in English and I find it very nice to finally understand the dialogue. In fact, several American movies are being dubbed in our local language that I find it sometimes amusing to chance upon an American film on tv but dubbed in our local language.

When I was young I watched a ton of chinese action movies. Most of them were in subtitles. So I've grown up with subtitles and prefer it.

I agree that subtitles are the way to go so that we can hear the original soundtrack.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
