Your question was "Has anyone tried herbal treatment for anxiety/depression", and I have, for both. In my case it was for situational-based anxiety and depression. St.John's Wort works very well for me.
I drink it in tea, usually, as the least-expensive alternative (and one that tastes good) using Yogi Tea. I've also tried Kava-Kava, both from capsules of extract and from Yogi Tea, and it doesn't agree with me--it gives some people nightmares, and I'm one of them. When you're stressed the last thing you need is nightmares and poor sleep!
A couple of other things that have really helped: Cod liver oil-- the high-vitamin (unstripped natural) kind. About the only brand of this in stores is Garden of Life company's Olde Icelandic. The high vitamin D content is part of what helps; the Omega 3 fatty acids in it are the other helpful component. It works pretty quickly, too.
Melatonin or its precursor, 5-HTP. They are both related to seratonin production. Seratonin is the "happy hormone".
They help regulate appetite and sleep, too. Spearmint oil in particular helps me relax when I'm too uptight. I put it in my water and rub it on accupressure spots.
Certain Essential Oils have been found to be very useful in treating anxiety and depression. Lavender Essential Oil, in particular, has been noted for its calming properties. Citrus Essential Oils are noted for their uplifting effect.
Tangerine Essential Oil|Tangerine, Lemon Essential Oil|Lemon, Orange Essential Oil|Orange, and Grapefruit Essential Oil|Grapefruit Essential Oils can be used to help combat depression. Many people feel that St. John's Wort has been helpful in combating depression and anxiety. The medical establishment in the US generally does not subscribe to the efficacy of this herb in treating depression. In Europe, however, St John's Wort is widely prescribed by physicians for treating depression and anxiety.
Exercise, meditation, yoga, and massage may also help with these conditions. While herbal/homeopathic remedies are a good place to start, it would be wise to consult a physician as well. Untreated depression or anxiety can become worse and should be monitored objectively as well as subjectively.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
