My average rev share over the past 10 days has been M$2.64/day. My average tip income over the same period has been M$6.40/day. Thus, my answer is a definitive no, but the rev share is certainly significant and a nice addition.
I have earned $1,217.56 Mahalo Dollars in tips and around 60 Mahalo Dollars in revenue sharing so it will be a while before my revenue sharing catches up with my tips .. if it ever does. I do not feel it would be likely in the near future. "If Mahalo were more family friendly would colleges and universities use Mahalo too engage in discussions?"
No Mahalo traffic would be less and fewer discussions would be the result because those kinds of discussions are not the cutting edge of what is interesting right now. Mahalo does not significantly create the interest in a topic, they build pages on already interesting topics so Mahalo users can read about them here. If Mahalo did not have these pages that might walk or cross the line of "family friendly" it would be incomplete and almost useless to anyone seeking information outside of the "family friendly" genre of topics.
Family discussions would not increase the usage of Mahalo by colleges and universities because they are the places where freedom of speech is held in the highest regard and expressed the most passionately. Family friendly is really quite boring and uninformative as it is such a narrow view and offers less inclusion of subjects and ideas to read about. Family friendly would be the death of Mahalo turning it into a sterile and boring environment.
Yes, there happens such things. Though it did not happen to me, but for many others I know whom had this situation in front of them.
. So, my answer happens to be no, but would like to see more of both in the future. Cheers!
I haven't done the math, nor have I been tracking the revelant stats over time to be able to do it properly now. But I think I am in a similar ballpark to @buddawiggi and @opher. I.e.My revshare is nice but is a fraction, maybe 15-25%, of my tips.
It's understandable that you personally have earned more in revshare as you ask a lot more questions than most, and you answer a relatively small number by comparison. It seems to me the points about family friendly and promoting Mahalo to colleges are not really related to the main question. Most views on Mahalo, and therefore the main source of revshare, come from search engine traffic.
People using search engines have little idea about the total scope of the site they are visiting. All the know for example is they Googled "best national anthem" or "best free antivirus" and a Mahalo question came up in the search results. The idea of promoting Mahalo to colleges is an interesting one, but it's hard to think of a category in which family friendliness is less important.
College age people don't have kids, and are, shall we say, especially hormonal and prone to being interested in "adult" content. The academic staff of colleges probably don't give two figs about family friendliness one way or the other, what they would care about is the quality and rigor of Mahalo.
I have noticed that rev-share has increased for me in the last while but it is too soon to adequately measure its success over best answers or tips. Getting Best Answers is influenced by a number of factors but primarily the competition on a question by others giving great answers and so it can have ebbs and flows. Rev share as far as I see is only recent, but I think in some cases at different time it has potential to be greater than best answer revenues.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
