Food Poisoning from an A&W restaurant located in Union Station - St. Louis, I will never forget it. While this is not my story with food poisoning; I experienced it and So, I NOW claim it as my story. My son was a sophomore in high school and had gone with a friend and his whole family for a day of fun! That night this family chose this restaurant and my son ordered something made with chicken.(My son is married now and gone so I can’t ask him specifically what he ordered off the menu) At around 7:00 am the next morning; he woke me up with a very quiet touch and in a very soft apologetic voice he whispered, “Mom… I am very sick!
I’ve been throwing up all night and I can’t stop”. I rose up and thought? What?
It wasn’t flu season and he had seemed fine when we all had said our goodnights before bed earlier. I then took his temperature. He didn’t have one.
I asked him what he had EATEN the night before. He then shared his story: He had ordered the chicken while everyone else ordered something else. He had to wait for his order because it was a special order at this place.
As he was waiting the young women/girl cooking the chicken had to ask someone - how long do I need to cook this for? What is the # again-?. He said, that at this moment he knew something was wrong.
He ate the chicken anyway because he was with friends (and was a guest) and they had to wait for (his special order) at this restaurant. I immediately drove him to our nearest hospital: St. Luke’s Hospital/ER. They examined him and they said that he was extremely dehydrated and then they started an IV.
He was very scared. I was MORE than very SCARED. He had been a very healthy young man the day before and he did not have a temperature at this time.
Why was he so sick? The ER asked us what he had EATEN the night before and he shared his story once again: (see above) That’s the end of the story: He/(Our Family) are still afraid to order chicken cooked in fast food restaurants. This is a Good question!
It’s been 10 years but we/I don’t order chicken in fast food restaurants. I think that this could be a good place to ask a few more? About our USA food chain and how it is doing with being inspected and how the (staff) in any restaurant are actually taught to prepare food in "our" restaurants?

Either way, I did something rather foolish by ordering something OTHER than waffles. I was taking a friend to the airport in Baltimore from Delaware. It's a little further than the Philadelphia airport, but there are often flights there at half the cost of a flight to Philadelphia, so friends often fly in and out of Baltimore. It was late morning, approaching lunchtime and we had been up for a while and only had a small breakfast so we decided to stop for lunch.
The only thing available at the exit was a Waffle House and a Burger King. I really don't like either one, but I figured WH was a little better. Since it was lunchtime, I decided against waffles and went with a Patty Melt and Chili.
As soon as I tasted the chili I KNEW I shouldn't eat it.It was lukewarm -- definitely not hot enough to kill bacteria. But I was hungry and we were in a bit of a hurry so I ate it quickly and we moved along (speaking of moving along). Within the day, I felt ill.
But by the next day, I got some relief from an antacid or some stomach medication. My stomach settled down for a few days during which time, my doctor told me, the bacteria was gaining population and strength within my system. Then it hit!
I won't go into details of my symptoms, but let it suffice to say when blood appeared I decided it was time to go to the doctor. He sent me straight to the hospital where, for five days, I was hooked up to some IVs with antibiotics, had more blood taken for cultures etc than I had ever seen taken from me before and spent the first couple days just barely able to sit up from the weakness. I was diagnosed with shegalla bacteria. It's a food-born illness that comes from under-heated foods.
And I was told it's more dangerous than Salmonella or e, coli because it gets into the bloodstream (which it had in my case) and can then be deadly. What a lovely week in th hospital for a cup of nasty chili. I don't eat at WH anymore.
Yes - Rustler Steakhouse - blue cheese salad dressing It’s only happened once. Nine of us went to the restaurant for lunch. One of the group won't eat salad.
Three of us chose House or Thousand Island dressing and five of us had the blue cheese dressing on our salads which all came from the same self serve bar. Between us we ordered five different "entrees". I got sooooooo... sick I thought I would certainly throw up my entire stomach and 10 yards of my intestines.
The major effects lasted three days and as I recovered I heard from the rest of the group that everyone who had the blue cheese dressing got deathly ill. I went back to Rustler and told them about the dressing poisoning five of us. Their response was “It couldn’t have been our food but here’s a coupon for a free meal”.
I haven’t been back. Sources: Personal experience .
Twice actually One time it was Wendy's. I had the Spicy Chicken sandwich, which I had many times before. I haven't had one since.
I also had a slight food allergy the last time I was at Wendy's. I couldn't figure out what caused it but I'm thinking my Wendy's days are behind me. One other time I was on the New Jersey turnpike and we stopped at a service area.
The name of the place escapes me right now but I got a hamburger and I was sick as a dog. It was horrible. It was definately my worst case of food poisoning.

I have been trying to remember the restaurant........but maybe I have blocked it from memory. It was from ordering the salad bar....it was from a Frisch's, Friendly's or someplace like that. I was violently ill for about 6 days.
Ultimately actually had to go to doctor to get antibiotics. Hubbie got violently ill, luckily for just 24 hours at an afternoon buffet at a resort in Cancun Mexico. Ewwwwwww.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
