Have you ever mistaken someone's Askville avatar for something other than what it really is/was?

For the last two days, I've just been laughing at myself for my silly mistake. For as long as she has used her current avatar, I have thought the avi was a sort of caricature or cartoon of an undefinable animal (which in my mind I never actually put a name to) with an oddly shaped snout. Then for some odd reason a couple days ago, the light bulb went on and I realized the avi is not at all what my eyes were "seeing", but a creature that is beautiful, nurturing, gentle and patient.

Can you guess who it is? Asked by? -Cat-?

You're talking about Goldie080. If you look carefully, The mother (female swan is called a "pen") has a baby swan (which is called a "cygnet") on her back. The cygnet is nestled right up against its mother's neck.

The name "Snuggles" comes to mind. (Goldie and Snuggles). The male swan is called a "cob".

I have always admired swans, but they can become very aggressive and attack if threatened. I had a loaf of bread, and because I didn’t offer the swan any.. she struck me with her beak, in my leg. I wasn't badly hurt.

If you see young children near them, please warn the parent. I will never forget that moment. Gorgeous swans are admired just gliding across the water slowly, just as I do Goldie080, whenever I read something that has her name connected to it.

Yes I had been on Askville for about 5 or 6 months and the very famous Goldie who is here had an avatar that I couldn't quite see clearly. I thought it was a picture of a woman standing in a doorway with red oriental beads hanging in the doorway and the woman was waving a white hankerchief up and down. Well I didn't know Goldie all that well and one day on a DB board it just hit me in the head like a hammer of what her avatar really was.It was a close close picture of a ladies eye blinking.

Well I'm glad Goldie has a good sense of humor because many people got a big kick out of it as I described what I thought it was. I can remember Goldie saying her avatar was the internet equivalent to the Rorschach Test. I can't remember when I laughed so hard.

I have no idea what a lot of avatar's really are.

The more complex the image the less most people can make out in such a small pic. It's like designing a logo, the simpler the better. OR Ashville could allow us to click on to the avatars and see them in a larger format but I doubt they'd bother.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
