We did once, when I was in college. My roommate and I had a cat, and we trained him to use the toilet. My roommate got a book about the whole process, and we were both pretty surprised that it actually worked and we did end up getting rid of the litter box.

Here’s what we did: 1. Put the litter box in the bathroom next to the toilet. 2.

Every few days, put another book (or something) under the little box to gradually raise it to the same height as the toilet. This is so the cat gets used to jumping up to do his or her business. 3.

Put the litter box on the toilet seat for a few days. 4. Remove the little box and instead put a special, shallow tray over the open--lid up--toilet (we found one specially for this purpose) with litter in it.

The tray was too flimsy for the cat to feel comfortable standing on, so he got used to "balancing" on the toilet seat. Or, you can stretch saran wrap over the toilet (under the seat). Wait a few more days.5.

This was probably 11 years ago, and I’ve not toilet trained a cat since, but I’m pretty sure these are the steps we followed.

I do remember that it actually worked! For the time we were in that apartment, our cat always used the toilet. The biggest drawback was that we only had one bathroom, so for a while when you had to go, you had to move the litter box or remove that special tray.

One word of caution--after we graduated, my roommate took the cat back to her parents’ house, and he refused to use the toilet there. She even tried starting the process over, but he refused to jump up to the litter box. He also turned out to have bladder problems, so maybe that had something to do with it as well.

Maybe it had a former owner who trained it, or maybe it was just very creative, and didn't want to share a litter box with 3 strangers. Can this really be done? How do you train a cat to use the toilet?

I mean, it's natural for them to cover up their mess.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
