Netbooks have been nice and are getting nicer, as with the specs on this 1012. My hubby buys, sells and repairs laptops and I have been able to play with this model specifically. As far as netbooks go, this one is great.
I can give you some basic pros and cons for a netbook, but more importantly... what will you be using this for? Will this be your only computer? Are you trying to decide between a netbook and a laptop?
Now, my only complaint with these puppies is that you don't have a CD/DVD drive. If you need to reinstall your system, it's a little more complicated and a pain in the butt since you can't just reinstall via CD. Now, if I were a student in school... I would love one of these. It's the perfect portable tool.
More portable than a pricy laptop. If you're needing something truly portable for use out and about, this might work for you... I just wouldn't want this small screen to be my ONLY screen. Also the keyboard and touch pad are smaller than a laptop.
Some people just can't get used to these. I would try one out and really sit down and compose a letter on one and see how your hands feel. This particular mini has more eye candy with a Broadcom Crystal HD chip, but they also have an Atom processor.
They aren't as fast as a typically newer laptop, but then again.. it depends on what you're using this for. Now for price! The best price I could find for one of these new is $318.
And the average used price is just barely over $200. If you want to offer a fair and decent price, I would say $250 would be a good place to start. If have any other questions to help you decide, please let me know.
Netbooks Pros -Portable -Acceptable Battery Life -Cheap Cons -Small memory -Small screen -Small power -Small keyboard -Overall small The only time you should buy a netbook is if you will be using it for web surfing and minimal word processing. They just don't have the computing power for anything else. If you are planning on doing more I think you'd be better off putting the money towards a more powerful laptop.
If you have decided, "Yeah, I think a netbook is for me. " I would suggest looking at the Toshiba mini NB300. Its an overall good machine.
Plus I would really suggest trying to see and touch all of the netbooks you are considering. Go to your local tech store and check them out and see which one feels the best under your hands.
I agree with all the advice above. One thing I'd like to add is that you should get more memory. (It comes with 1 gig in 1 slot, so you have to take that out to put in a 2 or 4 gig upgrade.
Keep it handy though, as you'll need to reinstall the original RAM if you find yourself sending it in fr service. ) Should cost you between 40 and a hundred dollars. You might also want to upgrade the hard drive to one with a 4 gig cache.
After a few days of use, this drive automatically stores the most used programs in that cache and you'll get speeds rivaling an SSD. (Solid State Drive) 250 gig is plenty of disc space, last time I looked, you could get a 500 gig drive 2 1/2" 5800 RPM with that hybrid memory for just over a hundred dollars. It should have windows 7 on it.
If not, call Dell and ask them to upgrade you. (There's a chance that this is an older unit with XP. ) After you get windows running the way you like, I STRONGLY recommend you put Ubuntu on it in a dual boot configuration.
Even if you never use it, when (not if) your windows gets messed up, all you need to do is boot to linux and you'll be able to use email and the web. (Plus any other programs installed on your ubuntu side. ).
Need to find a store in the US to buy a netbook. Where is the best brick and mortar store to buy a Windows netbook in the US? Posted by jim.
Would the Chromebook be right for me as a writing device? I'm looking to replace my old netbook I use for writing with something more swish and it looks to fit the bill, however I'm not a Google Docs user - how easy is it to transition to from using OpenOffice/Word? How well does the local storage/offline working option work?
How easy is it to export Word files and how well does formatting carry over?
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
