How can I cut onions without tearing up?

Cutting up an onion without crying a river of tears can sometimes prove to be a very difficult task. The reason you get all teary eyed is because the onion has a a bulb inside that contains a gas that when released, burns your eyes. There is a fix for this though.

When you need to cut an onion, you simply just need to cut the root and remove the bulb. Once you do that, cutting up the rest of the onion will be a tear free experience. Pretend you are cutting the top off of a pumpkin. Once you cut all the way around, pull out the root. You should have a pointy little bulb in your hand.

Get rid of it right away before the gases find your eyes and they begin to water. Be sure you got all of it. Cut the onion open and check for any parts of the bulb in the center.

If there is any, cut them out and throw them away. You can use onions in any type of food you like. There are sweet onions and there are not so sweet onions, so be sure you use the kind that is appropriate for the dish you are making.
