I have had exactly the same experience (in yahoo.co.uk) since I and others were moved from Mail Classic to the new version in June. Also, if I do (successfully) click on ten little boxes for ten emails, but then decide I DON'T want to delete one of them, and click on its little box again, to avoid it being deleted with the rest of them, that effort to mark for non-deletion doesn't have any effect---the box remains 'ticked' and the email will in fact be deleted if I then click on the main delete button, at the top. But this doesn't seem to be the case if you opt for the 'basic' version--which I experimented with, but decided against.
You might care to try it.
You can only delete your own questions (if not answered) and own answers( if BA has not been awarded to question).
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
