Frankly, no cat rescue has the funds to do the corrective surgery, and no shelter will do it either. Your boyfriend has to face facts. Either he fronts the money (which isn't as expensive as most operations) and fixes the cat, or he makes a decision about this that won't prolong the problem for the cat.
You don't say what's wrong with the cat---have you tried getting second opinions from other vets? Prices vary from vet to vet.
Well you didn't say what sort of surgery the cat needs and the prognosis for recovery. If the cat can end up living a long, healthy life after surgery and the no-kill shelter will take care of the surgery and then adopt him out - why put him to sleep? But if this is an "iffy" situation - a surgery that might not help the cat or will lead to further surgeries or problems and the chance of recovery is slim, then yes, the cat should be euthanized.
And where did this cat come from? Any chance it's from an old girlfriend and that's why you're pushing to have it put down?
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
