Because 'we' have become a 'gutless peoples' who refuse to stand up against our dictatorial governments (any political party) who have sold-the-very-soul-of the-UK too the highest bidder - and 'we' the peoples let it all happen. The 'bulldog spirit' has been long gone in the UK - 'we' all keeping our heads down and going with the flow of political/corporate abuse 'we' receive every single month from our (out of touch) millionaire government leaders (any political party) and multi-billion corporations etc. The modern day peoples mindset has been for years....'we' can't be bothered to complain anymore....'we' accepting all and anything that the political establishment/1%'ers dish out. Our (UK) political credibility (so-called democracy) is 'no better' than a 3rd world dictatorship country - 'we' are governed by a UK political/corporate system that does not benefit the peoples of the UK at any level.
Not one UK government (in our lifetime) has benefited the peoples - 'all' failed with the outrageous promises 'they made'....all left office/were kicked out at election time having (again) 'not benefited' the peoples at any level at all. And 'I'm' as much to blame as the next person for not making a stand against our UK governments policies and 'traitorous actions' (EU/Lisbon Treaty etc) taken 'without 'any consultation' with 'us' the peoples.! Its all to late now - what 'we' have now from our politicians is the 'norm' - that being just the way these crooked/fraudulent governments/politicians wanted it.
The erosion has been going on since the end of ww2. The British people had had it hard for 6 years and once the main enemy was defeated, you can't really blame them for wanting an easy ride for a few years. But that few years turned into a few more and politicians were quick to see this and trade on the British (especially the English) sense of good manners.
Inch by inch, bit by bit the fight and backbone has been leeched away - by legislation, intimidation and veiled threat of social ostracism if the party/pc line was not toed. Very sad, but don't despair. There are still some who remember and have not lost heart.
Pockets exist all over the country. Underground - but still there. Some still hear the beating of Drake's Drum.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
