How come the IRS will let some people wash away the back taxes they owe. Watched a show where they had a man file something with the IRS and he ended up not having to pay the 75gran he owed in back taxes. Sometimes it is easier to just write off a debt than to spend thousands of dollars trying to "get blood out of a turnip" .

When somebody owes you a debt, it's better to get something than nothing. The IRS has the ability to negotiate. They'd rather settle the debt, even if for less than the full amount, rather than pursue it, especially if the debtor simply can't pay.

I can't talk to the situation you describe, so I can't guess why they might have forgiven that debt. I doubt it's as simple as "You seem like a nice guy, so we'll just forget about it. " .

This man owed 75 gran and wanted to get married, but his lawyer advised him not to because the IRS would go after her money. Im not sure what show I watched it on but they had him file something with the IRS and waited for a call. She then told him that he owed nothing, and handed him a diamond ring that was donated to give to his fiancee. It just blew my mind because we all have charge cards and taxes to pay.

They don't say "oh your laid off or your pay is less so don't pay. " No, we go on what you call a payment plan. Leesa914 9 months ago .

Sounds like the IRS was unaware of the debt. Maybe they'd written it off years ago. Pursuing a debt is expensive, and sometimes it's cheaper to just give up and take it as a loss.

Or maybe he was simply wrong about owing the taxes. Say, he got an inheritance, and he thought they knew about it, but they didn't. It's really hard to say without knowing what he filed.

The IRS is NOT prone to debt forgiveness, so this is not a model you should try to repeat. I just hope the guy's lawyer was giving him good advice. The IRS may have been unaware of the debt, but if they become aware of it, they'll now be able to go after his wife.

Thanks Pam, I don't ever plan to owe them anything. They actually owed us money back in 1989but now to late to go for it. Leesa914 9 months ago .

" "How do I find out if I owe back taxes? " "DO I have to file taxes with my spouse even though he don't give me no money and when he owe I owe." "why does it takes so long to get your taxes back from the irs when it paper mailed?

My husband and I both owe back taxes. Will they combine the liabilities?

DO I have to file taxes with my spouse even though he don't give me no money and when he owe I owe.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
