Yes, just make sure no one owns him by either placing a collar on him with a note stating you are considering keeping him, or put signs up saying: FOUND CAT/PHONE. That would be a great thing to do, in taking the cat in and giving him a good home! Good for you!
Get a check with the vet for diseases and worms. Get whatever shots are required by the local laws (they do exist btw). If you intend to let the cat go outside, you DO need all the shots, to protect your cat and others.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
