I think I left them in the washer too long... rewashing didn't help. The towels are maybe 2 years old and I'd rather not buy new ones. I've used Tide, as well as a couple other brands but the towels all have that musty mildewy smell.
There is no visable mildew or mold and it doesn't smell like an old basement. Thanks for your help! Asked by billk86 55 months ago Similar questions: musty smell towels left washer long rewashing help Home.

Try baking soda Run them through the washer again. But do not use any detergent. Add 1 -2 cups of baking soda to the water.Do not run the washer right away, but let the towels soak in the treated water for about an hour.
Then run the washer through it's cycles. Also try dissolving some baking soda in water and put that in the segment where you would put the fabric softner (like where you would put Downey or such) and let the baking soda also be in the rinse cycle. You may need to do that a couple times.
Also, use hot water for the washing. Also, once you have done the baking soda washes, if you have clothes lines that you could hang the towles outside in the sunshine, that also will help finish removing smells. Baking soda is great for removing smells.
Another item for removing smells is vinegar. You might try adding 1-2 cups vinegar to the washer and let the towels soak in that for about an hour and then run the washer for a cycle. Once you have done a vinegar cycle, then start doing the baking soda cycles.
(do not do vinegar and baking soda in the same wash) .
A few options..... First, before you do any of these, make sure you don’t put too many towels in together, they need to be able to aggitate freely (no more than 3 towels per load, depending on size of towels). Add 4 cups white vinegar and 1 cup baking soda (make sure it dissolves) to washer with regular detergent and wash in hot water. OR Use OdoBan and add about 2 cups to washer with detergent and wash in hot water.
OR Use Simple Green and add about 2 cups to washer with detergent and wash in hot water. Run towels through washer again immediately following above step using just your regular detergent and hot water. Dry immediately.

Mildew smell Wash them again using bleach. It usually takes out any kind of smells. If you don't like or want to use bleach try a cup of white vinegar in the load.
Scented fabric softener in the wash or dryer cant hurt either.
Vinegar! Rewash the towels and add 1/4 cup of white vinegar to the rinse waster. It works!.
This happens to me But I usually wash them again and put in two dryer sheets. That usually does the trick for me. Sorry for the short answer but I don't have anything else to say about that.
Would you like me to sing you a song? La la la la la..................... no ok Have a great day.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
