How do I intsall timer switch with a red, black and white (neutral) wire when my box has only 2 black wires?

How do I intsall timer switch with a red, black and white (neutral) wire when my box has only 2 black wires. I have a timer switch with a red, black and white (neutral) wire but my box has only 2 black wires. I hooked up the black and red to the 2 black wires and left the white free.

The light goes on but the time clock doesn't work. Can I fix this? Asked by hcc330 23 months ago Similar questions: intsall timer switch red black white neutral wire box wires Science.

If the junction box does not have a neutral connection, that timer switch will not work. Since I am not clear on which exact permutation of "the box has only two black wires" you are using, I will give multiple options. If the box only has the two wires, then you have a problem.

The only solutions available are to change the wiring so you have the three needed wires: hot, neutral, and switched. If this is a situation where there is conduit (the most logical reason for both wires to be black) the problem can be solved by adding a neutral wire in the conduit. Otherwise, your best bet is probably to exchange that timer for a model that does not have a neutral.(the neutral allows the clock to run, separately from what the switch controls.

There are some timers that are battery powered, and some that use the switched wire to complete the circuit. (these often will only work with incandescent lights) if the box has two black wires to connect to the switch, but if you look inside, there are white wires connected together and folded to the back, you don't have a problem. - pull the whites forward and connect to them..

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
