Try this:"**If the Rope has Broken and the Spring is Good, then Remove the Blower Housing (metal engine cover and recoil Starter). Remove the Old Rope from the Recoil Pulley. Now Turn the Pulley in the Same Direction that the Pulley would Turn if the Rope was Turning it.

Once the Pulley will Turn No More, then Reverse Direction 1 or 2 Turns and Thread the New Rope Through the Hole in the Center of the Pulley and Out the Hole in the Blower Housing. Pull the Rope Through Until it is Tight Against the Pulley. Now Tie a Slip Knot in the Rope to Hold the Pulley in Place While the Handle is Attached to the Rope.

I got a push mower so I will never mess with those ropes again. It is easier. Dang near broke my arm.

Each mower is slightly deiiferent so this may not be exact, but Im sure it is close enough for you to accomplish the task. First remove the recoil housing. Generally this is 3 or 4 screws on top of the assembly where the motor is.

Once you do this, turn it over and cut the knot on the old rope. You should be able to remove the old rope now. After doing so, wind by hand the assembly that the rope was in in the direction that the rope would normally pull it.

Do this until you can not wind it further, then back it off until the hole that the rope was in is aligned with the hole in the cover. Insert your new rope through until it is out your hole where the knot was tied. Tie a knot.

DO NOT let the new string just wind in by letting go. Guide it slowly so that you still have some hanging out. Reasseb=mle the machine.

Make sure you have enouogh length to just reach where you want the handle, but NO extra. Tie on your handle so that there is some tension on the rope and cut off extra. Your done!
