The state governments can do whatever they like with their own public-funded employees as long as they curtail the possibility of future collective bargaining from the military agencies.
I don't think that the labor unions and collective bargaining should be outlawed. I do think that shops should be open though. I work in a closed shop, and have always been a union man regardless of the shop being opened or closed, but I think that people should have the right to decide.
I've stood in protests and picketed -- my union has a no strike clause -- and I've given up raises to ensure that my union brothers and sisters keep their jobs, so I sure as hell don't think that someone seeking to make a political name for themselves should be able to destroy the unions.
Collective bargaining helps people maintain health insurace, reasonable working hours, safe working conditions, injury compensation, etc. I do not want to go back to the days when my grandfather and great uncles worked in coal mines until they dropped dead. I don't think unions are perfect, but they are a lot better than the histoical disposable worker model.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
