I usually use.....candles and incense. Okay, it probably sounds kind of hippy-dippy, but I find that it works very well for clearing the fishy smell. I have sandalwood incense that I burn in the kitchen, while running the vent fan over the stove.

I then set out two or three really good smelling candles around the rest of the dining area (currently, I'm hooked on a Cranberry candle from Target) and let those burn for about 2 hours. The incense seems to neutralize the cooking smell and the candles counteract the overly smoky smell of the incense. I have also used a spray called, "Clinical Air" from Dr. Richard Schulze.It's a mixture of citrus and eucalyptus and it has worked well for me.

It's just that the candles and incense option tends to be a bit cheaper than the Clinical Air option, although, if it's a horrible smell (like the time my husband burned shrimp in the oven), I will use it liberally to neutralize the odor.

Vent fan We usually try to remember to run the exhaust fan in the kitchen when cooking fish. If you don't have one, you can always just put a small fan in a window and blow out the odors..even a box fan blowing out the kitchen door will work. I don't really like to cover up smells with sprays..
