Most people probably picture the straw man from "The Wizard of Oz" when they think of a scarecrow. Girls can make equally good scarecrows, especially during Halloween. While it's easy to picture the stuffed shirt and painted nose, it's not so easy to wear straw as part of a costume.
The tips are prickly and uncomfortable against skin. Masking tape not only holds straw in place but also protects you against scratches. If you don't have access to real straw, you can use craft store straw.

Wrap masking tape around the wristband to hold the straw in place. Conceal the wristband under the sleeve near the cuff, where it won't be seen. Wear a blue denim skirt or overalls for the scarecrow's bottom half.
If you choose the skirt, wear tights or leggings to keep straw from scratching bare legs. Attach ... more.
Fairies seem to be the latest trend in young girls' Halloween costumes. This article will guide you through the steps to create an inexpensive, easy, and quick girl's fairy costume without a single stitch. Gather fairy costume supplies.
Measure out and cut even strips of toole twice the length of your desired "fairy dress" plus four inches. You will need 10 or more strips of toole, depending on the size of the girl you are making the costume for and how full you want the dress. Tie a strip of toole around the waistband and continue with each additional strip until your "dress" equals your desired fullness.
Take one piece of a strip from the front left of the dress and one strip from the back left of the dress and bring them up to tie in a bow as a shoulder strap. Repeat the step on the right side for the other shoulder strap. Embellish the top of the dress with silk flowers, artificial butterflies, and/or rhinestones.
