The effect of tobacco on the immune system is two-fold. First, it contains toxins that damage deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), causing cancers. In addition, smoking knocks out the body's two protective systems that fight aging of the immune system and cancer in particular.
So, smoking makes the immune system less vigilant about catching cancers. It also increases the risk of cancers of the breast, prostate, mouth, throat, kidney, and bladder as well.
