How high on the wall should I mount a 47" LCD tv?

I am mounting a 47" LCD Tv on my wall, and I am wondering how high I should mount it. It will be in my living room where most people will be seated on the couch. I will also need to move an electrical outlet to plug the TV into.

Obviously this will be behind the tv on wall, so is there any advice on where to move that? Asked by crblack24 48 months ago Similar questions: high wall mount 47 LCD tv Consumer Electronics > TV & Video.

Best advice I can give you is to sit down on the couch sit down on the couch and stare at the wall, if you stare too high up, your neck might feel sore, imagine what people will do if they had to crane their necks up for over an hour watching a movie. You probably want something in the 3-5 foot range to the bottom of the lcd tv. Next you have to mount it.

Because the tv is heavy, you have to locate the wall studs so you can anchor the tv into it, you can't just mount the brackets to the wall because the sheetrock wall might tear off. If you don't have good installation instructions, here are some that are excellent (includes pictures) hometheaterblog.com/hometheater/2006/05/... if you have to move an electrical outlet, and you know what you are doing, then good. Get a gem box, knock a hole in the wall, fish out the cable feeding the old outlet into the new, install the gem box and outlets.

Patch the holes. If not, think about hiring an electrician, or a handyman to help you with it.

Eye level while seated. The eyes should be level with a point no more than 1/3 to 1/2 the height of the screen. Sources: tv.about.com/od/plasma/a/flatpanelmount_... .

Eye level when on couch I would put the vertical center of the TV in line with the average eye level of the viewers. Too high might give complaints about neck pain. Also think about windows and bright lights that may reflect off of the screen and obscure the picture. As for the outlet, once you figure out where to mount the TV, you will need to find a stud that is behind the TV to mount the new electrical box too.

I would put it on the opposite side of the plug so that the cord isn't too tightly kinked, and it will be easier to access to plug in. If you are running wires to a surround sound unit, DVD or DVR unit, or other components, you might run then through the wall at the same time as the electrical to make it a cleaner install..

1 A tip from recent experience. I needed to wall mount a 42" flat panel TV. I'd previously sunk trunking into the wall to hide the cables and felt pretty smug that it would be a neat job.

Alas, the brackets hold the TV so close to the wall that I simply can't fit some of the AV plugs in the back. SCARTs are a particular nightmare I can't overcome, but the VGA and power sockets are also too tight for comfort. The moral?

Inspect the TV/bracket before you buy.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
