For quite awhile, but I always try to not let things stay in the freezer over a few months. They tend to lose quality and get freezer burned. No sense in freezing something to then leave it so long that it's not appetizing to eat.

In my opinion, it seems cooked chopped meat gets freezer burn more quickly than raw. That could possibly be (again, in my own opinion) because the raw meat package is a large chunk of meat rather than small bits and pieces.

If it's in sauce then, yes, it may still be okay. I think it would be the sauce that would get the freezer burn taste rather than the meat itself. For some reason (and I don't know why) I consider 6-months to be a good marker for most things.As for dating it... yes, it's a good idea... but I know how things go in our busy lives today.
