How long do I need to keep my child home with head lice?

Most schools have adopted the "nit free" policy. You've got a son, so ridding nits is much easier than a girl with longer (longer meaning longer than a boy's) hair. Once you have treated his hair (and do not use more than the package says or you could run the risk of toxicity), they recommend using the fine tooth comb, but I say it's best to get his head under a bright light (daylight works best) and look in small sections at a time for both any live critters that may have survived, but mostly for the nits.

Nits look like light brown tear-drops. The higher to the scalp they are, the newer they are. The longer they are down on the hair, the longer they have been there.Do not rely on just the comb alone, go through section by section pulling out the nits and placing them in a cup of water with a small amount of nit shampoo in it.

Do not forget to wash all bedding, clothing, etc and put all toys in a plastic bag that you will seal up for about a week. Be sure to treat all furniture as well and check all other family members. As long as there are no critters or nits (and most schools say 100% gone! ), your child should be fine to return to school.

Make sure your school has a policy in place to anonymously notify parents that a child in the class has lice so they can check their own children and prevent it from going around and around.(Most schools should do this, ours didn't until recently when I complained about it). Also have your son wear a hat if possible. Simply shampooing alone does not do the trick.

Good luck!

I am sorry to hear your son has head lice. It sounds like you have shampooed your sons hair with lice shampoo. When we had lice we did everyone's head in the house, even if we did not see lice.

You will also want to make sure to wash everything in the house. This includes bedding, towels, hats, clothing, floors and everything in between. If you do not, your son has a greater chance of getting the lice back.

If you do all that I mentioned above, I would keep him home just a few days to make sure the lice is completely gone. It is important to tell the school why he is home. Chances are the kids that sat around him may have lice, as well.

The school will usually inform the parents that there is a child with lice in the classroom. They will not name names. If you do not inform the school and a child that sat next to your son has lice, you will send your son back to school just to get lice back.

Then you have to go through the entire routine again. It is just not worth it. There is no reason to feel shame if you get lice.

Lice do not discriminate. You can be the cleanest and wealthiest people on the block, lice do not care.

.

Use a head lice shampoo to help remove the lice from your child's hair. Also wash all the clothes your child was wearing when you discovered the lice. Be sure to do the same with the bedding, pillow cases, etc.Head lice if not properly taken care of will reappear.

If the school nurse knows about the lice, you'll have to adhere to school policy. Another thing to consider if you send your child to school with lice, you could create havoc as well.My advice is to call the school nurse and see what they have to say and get your child's school work from his/her teachers during the interim.

A day. Chemical treatment is actually not required, but most folks prefer it. To treat lice the trick is to remove the nits.

The nits basically glue themselves to hair. A metal nit comb, while tedious, will remove the nits. Regular wash and dry all lines and plush toys.

Put other toys in a bag, tightly sealed, for about 10 days. For more info, see; livingwithbugs.com/lice_nits.html The following sites talks about killing the nits, but in reality the best method is removal. pestid.msu.edu/InsectsArthropods/HeadLic... If you are in the US, I recommend the product NIX, followed by a thorough combing with a METAL fine tooth nit comb (typically around $5 - 7.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
