Answer below: A mini dv tape will hold 13gigs of Data. A 1080i mpeg 2 file created from most camcorders will be 25mbps. So you should be able to fit around 63min per miniDV tape..
Generally one hour plus.. Depends on the camera used (and some don't use tape but record to small optical disks or to memory sticks..). The Canon HV20 for example says 63 minutes using a standard SP tape. So it depends alot on what camera you're using.
The manufacturer's website (or, horrors, the user manual) will give that information. Gh Definition is a LOT more data than the old 4x3 TV signal, and the data recording methods haven't changed all that much, so there is a limit to how much HD Video can be stuffed onto a tape. You might also google search on the model number of your camera.
