Check the food bag One way to answer your question would be to direct you to the bag of food, usually somewhere on there it is labeled exactly what they should be getting, I know that I use science diet foot, and it directly tells me how much to feed, how often, and how to modify those portions if i'm adding wet food in during the day. Another way would be to call your vet, making sure that your cats are getting their yearly check ups can help, that way your vet can tell you if your animal is on track or overweight and then the vet can help you with solutions if needed. Another good tip i've heard, is to feed your cat 2x a day, put down the food and then once your cat walks away pull up the food.(let it eat until it's done) Then again repeat at night, your cat will learn that eating time is eating time and it will eat what it needs and that is a good indicator too.

Most cats unless they are overweight thou will do just fine with having food down at all times and not overeating! Goodluck!.

I've had cats all of my life too. I've had them to live for 18 to 20 years.My cat before this one had to be put down in October because he had hyperthyroid condition and the medication didn't work. He was 12 years old.

That's why I'm so concerned about this cat that I have now. Perhaps I should just ease my mind and take him to the vet. Thanks for your input!

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
