How to get a Plantronics 510 recognized as an audio source on my ThinkPad T61?

Once you have paired your headset, you need to connect to it before you can use it for audio. I have the same headset and I got it working with my Dell laptop by pairing the two together and then telling my laptop to connect to the headset.
