How to make a DIY router/modem (from scratch) similar to Fon / fonera , running OpenWRT or dd-wrt?

Define "from scratch. " If you mean from the transistors; then, no, the fact that you are asking here means you can't. (If you want to learn though, more power to you.

Though it's not something you can learn in a week; it's at least two years of college) It's a lot easier if you are going from chips. You would still need to have a lot of knowledge to be able to properly choose the right chips/placement/routing. It is much easier and cheaper to just go get a cheapo router and load dd-wrt on it.

I recommend the linksys wrt-600n it's powerful, got lots of ram and flash and has gigabit ports.

Short answer : you can't Long answer : a router isn't something you can make easily : it's basically a small computer and you'll notice the only DIY computers out there are replicas of old 8 bit systems. The time and money you'll spend learning even the basics of making something of the scale of a router isn't worth it unless you plan on making it your job.

You can install a x86 version of DD-WRT on PC hardware but the free version has limited capabilities. OpenWRT seems a little more difficult but I'm sure it's not that much harder than DD-WRT. You're PC hardware won't need much power so could be an older one or a low power one.It will also need a modem and at least one NIC and maybe a switch or hub.

As for having all the functionality of the Fon since their routers' firmware is based on OpenWRT you there is definitely hope. wi-fiplanet.com/tutorials/article.php/38... I suggest you start then ask again with more specific questions about features you want to implement.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
