I do not see it affecting me personally at all but being an ex-military veteran, I do take pause in hoping that a balance can be struck between the service offerings of those who are of that life style and the functional behavior necessary to maintain morale in a military unit. Military units operate on cohesiveness and trust and once those aspects are violated, it places everyone in the unit in greater danger. I am not pointing a finger at gay behavior other than to say there is an expected behavior on the part of hetrosexuals in the military which to my awareness has always been observed. In other words, you don't see hetrosexuals wearing their sex orientation on their sleeve or flaunting it in public places in an order the top "hey look at us manner".
Regardless of who you are or what your sexual orientation may be, when you strap on the uniform of the United States Military, you conduct yourself in a highly respectful manner at all times and you respect the ceremony and tradition associated with wearing that uniform. The military does not exist to change itself for anyone. It exists as the primary protection of the citizens of this country. The service is time-honored and steeped with tradition.
On that basis, let's not let someone's sexual orientation taint that in our history or our future in any way."Don't ask, Don't tell" had its merits although some feel that it was only oriented toward the gay aspect of the military. In essence, they order was, "don't ask me my sexual orientation and I will not offer it. " That applied to hetrosexuals as much as anyone.
Basically, it was not a topic on the table for discussion. From my perspective, I do not see the military gaining anything by allowing it to become an open topic of discussion in the ranks. I believe there are those on both sides of the orientation who will use that point to do nothing but cause trouble and in the end undermine cohesion and morale in the process.WB.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
